Solicitors Qualifying Examinations
The SQE is the series of exams which must be passed in order to qualify as a solicitor in England & Wales. The SQE exams consist of SQE1, a not-to-be-underestimated 360-question multiple choice exam, testing legal content from a broad syllabus of 16 subjects. SQE2 tests mostly the same legal content in a practical context, with written assessments including researching, drafting, and writing, as well as oral assessments in advocacy and client interviewing.
Knowing and understanding the rules of law on the exam syllabus is fundamental to success on both SQE1 and SQE2. A strong understanding of the legal content on the exam breeds competence which leads to confidence, which is crucial to be in the frame of mind to calmly demonstrate the skills that each exam is testing.
